Leongatha

Situated near the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, Leongatha is a service centre for the surrounding rural district. Dairying is a major industry here and the Murray Goulburn Cooperative Dairy is the largest in Australia.


Main Attractions

The Historic Society Museum contains some interesting displays worthwhile investigating. Leongatha Gallery displays local arts and crafts and hosts changing exhibitions.

Nearby attractions

The town is a good base for exploring Wilsons Promontory and the seaside and fishing villages along the coast. The South Gippsland Railway operates train rides from nearby Korumburra to Loch and Nyora. Departure times are available from the Korumburra information centre. The Grand Ridge Brewing Company, located at Mirboo North, 26km NE, offers tours of the beer-brewing process and sales. Moss Vale Park with its avenue of redwoods, is 16km NE, and offers good picnic and BBQ facilities. The soundshell, also located in the park, is the venue for a performance by the Victoria State Orchestra each February.
