DESTINATION: MallacootaA tranquil fishing and holiday town, Mallacoota is located at the mouth of Mallacoota Inlet in the far eastern corner of Victoria. The surrounding estuaries, bays, headlands and promontories are especially scenic and many are protected by Croajingolong NP. Main AttractionsSwimming is popular along the foreshore reserve and there are safe swimming areas at all the beaches within Mallacoota. There are good surfing spots at Bastion Point, Big Beach and Tip Beach. |

Great bush and beach walks are within Croajingolong NP, which was declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 1977. This park has 100km of coastline, 320km of lake shoreline and many rivers and creeks to explore. There are many lake and river cruises available, and scenic drives and self-guided walks; brochures available from Parks Victoria. Birdwatching is particularly popular along the walking track to Genoa Peak, where there are over 300 species to spot, including the glossy-black cockatoo. Gabo Island Lightstation Reserve is 11km east. It can be enjoyed as a daytrip or visitors can arrange to stay in the Assistant Lightkeeper's residence.
