Melton is 35mins from Melbourne's city centre, the Shire of Melton is an integral part of urban Melbourne. Despite its size, easy access to the airport, ports, and national road and rail networks, it has maintained its country atmosphere. There are a number of top harness racing operators here and Melton is recognised as one of the nation's foremost thoroughbred breeding areas. Main AttractionsWarrensbrook Faire is Melton's premier tourism precinct, featuring restaurants, wineries and equestrian facilities. Melton Waves leisure centre features Australia's first indoor wave pool, a rapid river, 25m pool, toddler pool, hydrotherapy pool and 2 outdoor pools. Willows Historical Park and Homestead is a museum of pioneer memorabilia and is accessed off McKenzie St. An ideal spot for picnics is Hannah Watts Park, beside Toolern Creek. Cycle paths and walking tracks follow the creek. A self-guided heritage trail passes the old town site, an Aboriginal canoe tree, Melton Hotel, The Willows and Darlingsford. The walk takes about 1.5hrs. |
