DESTINATION: Ocean GroveSituated at the mouth of the Barwon River, 96km SW of Melbourne, this resort town is a popular fishing and surfing destination. On the other side of the Barwon River is Barwon Heads, another popular holiday spot offering safe swimming along the shores of the river. A bridge over the Barwon River links both towns. Main AttractionsSmiths Beach is a fine surfing beach with a long stretch of sand, backed by a foreshore reserve with a number of walking tracks. Located in town are facilities for fishing, yachting, waterskiing and scuba diving. The peninsula's last remaining stand of original bushland is located behind the town and is protected in the Ocean Grove NR. Native flora and fauna can be seen from 2 walking trails running through the reserve. |
