DESTINATION: RochesterLocated 180km south of Melbourne and 29km NW of Echuca, Rochester is situated on the Campaspe River. The town is a service centre for surrounding dairy and small-crop farms. Rochester has the largest dairy factory in Australia. Main AttractionsThere are many lakes and waterways in the region, making the town popular with fishing and watersports enthusiasts. Rochester was the birthplace of the renowned cyclist Sir Hubert Opperman, who achieved fame in the 1920s in the world of international cycling before becoming a politician. A statue opposite the Railway Station commemorates his achievements and a museum of memorabilia donated by Sir Hubert is located in the Railway Station and opens by request. |
