DESTINATION: Shepparton
Considered the capital of the Goulburn Valley, Shepparton is a thriving regional city, 180km north of Melbourne. Irrigated by the Goulburn Irrigation Scheme, Shepparton is known as the 'Food Business Hub of Australia'. Main AttractionsShepparton Art Gallery, in Welsford St, has an outstanding ceramics' reputation, housing 3000 works from the 19th century to the present day. In addition, it has works by notable artists, including Streeton, McCubbin and Perceval. The region's history is preserved in the Shepparton Historical Society Museum and is housed in Shepparton's first public hall, on the corner of High and Welsford sts. At Victoria Park Lake, the grassy banks invite visitors to picnic or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the foreshore. The Shepparton Arts Festival, held in March, is a major event spread over 2 weeks. |
