DESTINATION: StawellA town with a rich history of goldmining and pastoral activity, Stawell is 129km NW of Ballarat. It is an ideal base for exploring the Grampians region, including the western vineyards. Stawell is renowned for the annual Stawell Gift, the richest footrace in Australia. Main AttractionsFrom the Pioneers' Memorial on Big Hill Lookout, there are fine views over Stawell to the Grampians in one direction, and the wide flat Wimmera plain and the Pyrenees in the other. Casper's World in Miniature Tourist Park displays scale models of world famous icons, including the Eiffel Tower. The park is located in London Rd. Other attractions include the Stawell Gift Hall of Fame Museum in Central Park; Fraser Park, which displays mining equipment; and Stawell Ironbark Forest showcases spring wildflowers and rare orchids. |

A rock shelter in the Black Ranges, 11km south, known as Bunjil's Shelter, is the most important Aboriginal art shelter in Victoria. A painting in the shelter depicts Bunjil, the All-Father and wise good spirit, and 2 dingoes. There is also a good view of the Grampians from here. The shelter is 11km south of Stawell.
