This fast-growing, busy resort, 96km SW of Melbourne, is renowned as the 'Surf Capital of Australia'. Jan Juc and the world-famous Bells Beach are the main surf beaches.


Main Attractions

Lions Park, situated on the Esplanade, has a children's playground, rotunda, picnic and BBQ areas. Natural parkland with walking tracks and a yabby pool can be found in Taylors Park, also on the Esplanade. Australia's only surfing museum, Surfworld, is located in the Surf City Shopping Centre. The museum is dedicated to surfing and incorporates a Hall of Fame, memorabilia, photographs, novel displays and working models.

Torquay's location at the start of the Great Ocean Rd makes it an ideal base from which to explore the spectacular coastline and hinterland. This stretch of coastline is recognised as having the best waves outside of Hawaii. Bells Beach, just a few kilometres away, is the chosen venue for the international surf carnival, the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Classic, held each Easter. Jan Juc beach has a reputation for being a little wilder than Torquay. It is also the start of the 30km Surf Coast Walk to Angahook-Lorne SP. This walk takes in the beach, clifftop tracks and trails and travels through coastal bushland. Numerous access points allow walkers to leave or join the walk at any stage.
