Main AttractionsMerriwa Park is attractive with its sunken garden, mature river red gums, ferneries and ponds. The park is located on the King River. Sydney Beach, on the Ovens River, is a pleasant picnic and swimming area. The Exhibition Gallery features changing exhibitions. It is located in the old Presbyterian Church in Ovens St and is open 12pm-5pm. Infamous bushranger, Mad Dog Morgan's headless body was buried in Wangaratta's main cemetery, in Tone Rd. The Pacific Fighterplane Collection and Precision Aerospace Productions are both situated in the main hangar at the Wangaratta Airport. This attraction is open to the public daily except Saturdays. On Wednesdays & Sundays guided tours by the dedicated volunteers are available. |

Glenrowan, to the south-west, has several main attractions linked to the legend of Ned Kelly, including Kellyworld Animated Theatre and Kate's Cottage and Museum. There are also famous Baileys of Glenrowan. Eldorado, 20km NE, is an interesting old gold town which has the largest gold dredge in the Southern Hemisphere. Gold fossicking is popular in nearby Reids Creek. There are many scenic roads leading to quaint townships and natural attractions, such as Powers Lookout and Paradise Falls in the King Valley.
