Busselton

This fishing town built on the shores of Geographe Bay and the Vasse River is 228km south of Perth. Busselton's 30km of sandy beaches are one of its principal attractions.


Main Attractions

Measuring 2km in length Busselton Jetty is the Southern Hemisphere's longest wooden structure. It is a favourite site for walks, snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing. Also part of the jetty complex are Busselton Jetty Interpretive Centre, and Busselton Underwater Observatory which features unique corals and marine life. Historic buildings include the Old Butter Factory Museum, in Peel St, which recounts the early days of the town's history. St Mary's Anglican Church, Peel Tce, was built in 1844 of stone; making it the oldest stone church in the state. The Old Court House, in Queen St, houses an arts complex.

Nearby attractions

Ludlow Tuart Forest, 7km east, is a popular picnic and walking retreat and is the world's only natural tuart forest. Nearby on Layman Rd is Wonnerup House (1859), a National Trust-restored and furnished colonial period home. A scenic drive along Geographe Bay to Cape Naturaliste journeys through Dunsborough, Eagle Bay and Meelup and provides an opportunity to visit Ngilgi Cave and Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse.
