Denmark

Denmark, 414km SE of Perth, is an idyllically situated retreat on the Denmark River beside Wilson Inlet. In addition to its scenic attractions the town has earned a reputation as a creative centre, with local artisans producing excellent works of art and craft.


Main Attractions

Aboriginal and other art galleries can be found in and around Denmark. Riverside markets are held Dec-Jan and at Easter. Pentland Alpaca Stud and Tourist Farm, on Scotsdale Rd, breeds alpacas, and also has native and farm animals. Popular activities include windsurfing, fishing, waterskiing and horseriding, and there are several walks including the Moakare and Wilson Inlet Heritage trails.

Nearby attractions

Scenic drives in the area are rewarding and lookouts are at Mount Shadforth and Wilson Head. Local wineries include Catherine Hill and Howard Parks, both 2km north; and Matilda's Meadow, 5km north. Bartholomew's Meadery, 20km west, makes bee produce, including mead, an alcoholic drink made from honey and water. William Bay NP, 17km SW, protects unique coastal scenery including Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks, Tower Hill, Madfish Bay and Waterfall Beach; both Greens Pool and Madfish Bay are safe swimming spots. Parry's Inlet, 25km west, has good swimming and seasonal salmon fishing.
