DESTINATION: Esperance

Esperance

The South Coast's pristine beaches, good fishing, and access to the Archipelago of the Recherche have contributed much to Esperance's popularity as a holiday destination. Situated 720km SE of Perth, the town is a commercial and service centre for nearby farming districts.

Main Attractions

Esperance Municipal Museum, James St, has a collection of farm equipment, a marine exhibit, and remnants of Skylab, the US space station that fell to earth in the area in July 1979. For a distinctive souvenir, Mermaid Marine Leather processes and sells fashion accessories made from fish skins. Tanker Jetty is recommended for angling and seal watching. A 10km shorefront walking and cycling track follows the Bay of Isles. Fishing and diving tours and scenic cruises are also on offer.
