DESTINATION: Rockingham

Rockingham

From Rockingham's founding in 1872 until the opening of the Fremantle harbour in 1897 this town operated as one of Western Australia's timber ports. Today it is a seaside resort city, conveniently located 47km south of Perth, capitalising on its pristine beaches and protected waterways.

Main Attractions

Beach-based recreation is a major attraction, including swimming, boat harbour tours, 'watch and swim with the dolphins' cruises, and diving excursions to offshore wrecks and reefs. On Kent St is the Museum of Local History and exhibitions can be viewed at the Art Gallery on Civic Blvd. Western Australia's grain industry history is recounted at The Granary on Rockingham Rd, which is open by appointment. A coastal scenic lookout worth visiting is at Cape Peron on Peron Rd.
