Editorial Policy
Editorial Policy for contributors (writers, photographers and bloggers) to the www.planbooktravel.com.au web site.
planbooktravel has developed two websites:
-
http://business.planbooktravel.com (tourism directory)
-
www.planbooktravel.com.au (destination publishing)
The directory site is available for travel and tourism business to promote their products and services and to contribute news and specials about their business. The directory site can be used for the promotion of commercial material.
This editorial policy refers to content contributed to the planbooktravel.com.au destination publishing web site.
The publishing site is designed for creating user generated content about Australian locations and is available for writers, photographers, travellers and businesses alike to write stories, upload photos and keep journals. To share your travel experiences and information about your location with others.
planbooktravel.com.au is a publishing platform developed for the purpose of aggregating user generated content and cataloguing content against locations. The objective of the site is to produce interesting content on all locations in Australia. The theme of the content must relate to the location in some way.
Articles and photos when published, will appear in the town, Region, State and on many other places on the site, including the home page.
Submission Guidelines
Decisions regarding the publishing of content will be made on the basis of our Editorial Policy. This will involve consideration of potentially conflicting factors weighed against each other and decisions will be made at the discretion of the editors.
Many of our users are involved in the travel and tourism industry and may list their business in the directory web site. We will generally not approve content on the publishing site that is of a commercial nature - i.e. it talks of features of the commercial operation with little thought to the location, unless this content is paid advertising.
We will be accepting work that:
-
* focuses on Australia and Australian locations (towns, national parks, cities, areas, regions, states)
-
* that motivates others to learn about an Australian location
-
* is well researched
-
* is well produced and edited
-
* is innovative, engaging or entertaining
-
* is constructive and community focused
- * is inspiring
We won't be accepting:
-
* work that promotes sexism, racism or homophobia or discriminates against dis-empowered members of the community
-
* advertising or advertorial – unless prior arrangements have been made with site editors
-
* content that overtly promotes the interests of any particular religion or religious groups, governments or corporations as a primary purpose
-
* content
that specifically depicts the commercial operation, that is self motivated, with the purpose
of only promoting the commercial operation (hotel rooms etc) with no thought to the location and the community.
Open Content
planbooktravel operates on the principles of open content. We want visitors to this site to be able to freely copy and redistribute the works here as long as it is for non-profit purposes, unless you choose to let others use your work for commercial purposes also. You can specify how your content is used and distributed when selecting a license.
Work should preferably be share-alike, which means "I share if you share", allowing others to re-edit or use part of your work in theirs, so long as they allow others to do the same with their work. Apart from the ethics of such a policy, we believe it is practically impossible to stop people reproducing your work once it is in digital form. This is also a positive, however, as people will help you distribute your work around the globe if they enjoy it.
planbooktravel uses the Creative Commons licenses as they are currently the most developed. When you publish your work you will be asked to specify a Creative Commons licence.
What will happen to your work once you have submitted it?
Once you complete your article or photo, you need to change the state of the content from public draft to submit. The site moderators will then view the content and publish or reject it. You'll receive an email about this too. If you continue publishing solid content we'll invite you to become a site moderator and help review and approve other people's content too.

For further information on content licences, user submissions and take down rights, we refer you to our terms and conditions.
