The Dutchmans Stern Homestead and Shearers Quarters are two classically Australian, self-contained buildings nestled in the spectacular Southern Flinders Ranges.
Surrounded by rugged mountains, abundant wildlife and the wide-open plains of The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park, it is hard not to fall in love with the spectacular surrounds. Watch kangaroos graze on the grasslands amongst the yacka in the early morning sun; hike to the top of Dutchmans Stern; or simply savour the seclusion of the tranquil landscape.
The Old Homestead was once part of a working sheep station. Spacious and fully furnished, this 1930s timber-frame home features a galvanized roof with a classic bull-nose verandah and space for up to six guests.
Across the road is the Shearers Quarters, with a slightly more rustic feel. Consisting of three bedrooms, it can comfortably sleep up to 10 guests. Locals jokingly refer to the main bedroom as 'the honeymoon suite'. Featuring fabulous glass doors, which open to a private balcony, it offers million-dollar views of the magnificent ranges, and the Bluff - one of the park's most iconic landmarks. The huge kitchen table is another (quirky?) feature. Seating ten persons, it regularly becomes the social hub for late night gatherings of family and friends.
The Dutchmans Stern accommodation is located 10 kilometres north west of the charming town of Quorn. It is one of 30 unique accommodation options in South Australia, managed by national parks. Bookings are essential.
