This one day event, beginning in Grafton passing through Glen Innes and finishing in Inverell, is a 228 kilometre ride over some of the most demanding terrain in worldwide cycling, starting at 25 metres above sea level and climbing to 1060 metres, then finishing in Inverell at 590 metres.

The Grafton to Inverell is five races in one. A Grade (Elite), Division two and Division three, Ladies, and a new section for Under 19's. The Ladies and Under 19's race goes from Glen Innes to Inverell with a loop through the little village of Elsmore. There is also a Teams event which is becoming very popular. An average of 165 to 170 riders begin the race.

The race is six to seven hours long, depending on weather conditions. The Grafton to Inverell is one of the main events throughout the year in world cycling.
