The Archibald Prize has a great tradition for generating controversy and debate and is one of the must-see events in the Australian art calendar.

The Prize is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. Since its inception in 1921 the prize has been awarded to some of Australia's most important artists including: George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley. Some of the more prominent winning subjects have included literary luminaries 'Banjo' Patterson, Patrick White and Richard Flanagan, politicians including Paul Keating and Gough Whitlam, actors David Wenham, John Bell, Max Gillies and David Gulpilil, and musical virtuoso such as Simon Tedeschi and Peter Sculthorpe.

The Wynne Prize: awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery in oils or watercolours or for the best example of figure sculpture, by an Australian artist.

The Sir John Sulman Prize: awarded for the best subject painting or genre painting or mural project by an Australian artist.
