Chamber Music Australia - Southbank
The Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition will be held in Melbourne from 1 to 5 July 2009. The very best young musicians from Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, most in their early 20s, display verve, excitement and superior music-making skills. In ensembles of three (piano, violin and cello) or four (2 violins, viola and cello) they will challenge and enthral audiences with individual interpretations of musical masterpieces. The Competition is staged in Melbourne every four years for piano trios and string quartets and is a stepping stone towards the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. The groups compete for substantial cash prizes and a series of concert engagements.
Masterclasses form part of the Competition program. Audiences can hear some of the world s most respected teachers and musicians as they share their insights into the interpretation of great chamber music. Members of the jury will work with some of Australia s leading young musicians in intensive masterclasses.
