How To License your Work.

This How-to applies to: Any version.
This How-to is intended for: Power Users, Editors

Planbooktravel.com is different from many commercial offerings, and a leader in the field of preserving your intellectual property, as we truly believe in your ownership and control of your work. This is an important difference from most other offerings. You maintain in control. It's your work. We don't want to detract from that.

Purpose

This section will try to explain the function of the licensing mechanism. By default, your work is All Rights Reserved to you the contributor. So effectively, you don't have to change the license unless you wish.

However, we promote the free exchange of information.

By contributing to Planbooktravel.com, you are allowing us to use the work and display it on the site, and use it to promote the site, as per our Terms Of Service. We will always contact you if we wish to use your work for other commercial endeavours not associated with the site or it's promotion, and ask permission.

The site allows you to set certain licenses on your work, allowing people to use it, as you see fit. We support Creative Commons Licenses, the GNU Free Documentation License, and adding the license of your choice.

Planbooktravel.com recommends the Creative Commons licensing scheme which preserves your intellectual property rights whilst giving permission in advance for the content to be used more broadly than would be permitted under default copyright law.

This is after all, the internet. Sharing information is what it's about, and what we are about!

Prerequisities

You should be familiar with adding a Photo or Review to the website.

Step by step

As an example, we'll step you through our default All Rights Reserved license.

1. Create your content.

2. Click on the green 'properties' tab on your Photo or Review

3. In the Copyright Holder box, enter your full name, and select All Rights Reserved.

4. Save! You're done.

If, however, you wish to adopt a Creative Commons license to content that you have contributed and wish to allow others visiting the site to use text or images under certain conditions, then these are the steps to take:

1. Create your content.

2. Click on the green 'properties' tab on your Photo or Review

3. In the Copyright Holder box, enter your full name.

4. Select Creative Commons License, and click on 'Choose', a pop-up should appear.

5. You can now choose how you wish your work to be licensed, either :

  • Allow commercial uses of your work? Yes or No
  • Allow modifications of your work? Yes or Yes, as long as others share alike, or No
6. Hit select. You can then overview the license given, when you are ready, click proceed.

7. Save! You're done.

Remember, you are the owner of your work, so you can always allow others to use your work how you wish in agreement with them. So whereas your work is licensed under CC on the site as not to be used for commercial work, you as owner, can always allow people or groups to do so!

Freedom.
