Being the gateway to the Snowy Mountains resorts and Kosciuszko NP, and located at the junction of 2 highways linking Canberra, the coast and the mountains, Cooma is a busy tourist centre. The town is also the administrative centre for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme.
