Blackwater
This leading coal-mining centre of Queensland is located 190km west of Rockhampton. Coal from open-cut mines is transported to Gladstone for export and steaming coal provides fuel to the Gladstone Power Station. The discolouration of the town's waterholes, from the tannins released by the plentiful ti-trees, has given Blackwater its name.
