Fraser Island
- Also part of Great Sandy NP, Fraser Island is administered as a separate park to Cooloola. Covering 1653km², the island is the largest sand island in the world and is listed as a World Heritage Area. Known for its variety of wildlife (over 230 bird species), Fraser Island is a popular destination with its amazing geographic heritage, coloured sands, perched dune lakes, desert-like sandblows, saltwater fishing, walking and hiking trails. Camping, cabin and resort accommodation is available. There are no formed roads on the island, so it is necessary to take a 4WD for any exploring. There are barges operating from 4 different points on the island and mainland, and it is possible to arrive via light plane. There are prearranged tours and daytrips available for those interested in a guided service.
