Queenstown
- Queenstown emerged as a boomtown of the 1890s when gold and minerals were discovered at Mount Lyell. The strange but arresting 'moonscape' that surrounds the town was caused by acid-rain during the mining era. Arguably the pink, purple and grey rocky hills do have a certain beauty.

Hi Jeremy,
That photo was taken quite some years ago now so I am a bit hazy about it. However from memory we just parked on the side of the road as we 'descended' into Queenstown (on the road in from the East) and went for a ride.
Sorry I can't be of much help.
Andrew Barnes.
PS: If the person enquiring is looking for places to mountain bike in Tasmania the best ride we did during a two week driving / mountain biking 'tour' around Tassie was on the old coast road that runs from along the West Coast from Granville Harbour toward Trial Harbour. Again my memory is hazy but this old road is perfect for mountain bikes as it is 'blown out' and no longer driven by normal cars. Fantastic coastal views, interesting area etc. We just rode south for half a day then rode back again.
