- Arthurs Seat has been a popular recreational destination since the earliest days of settlement. The steep granite hill, the Peninsula’s highest viewpoint, provides panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay from its many lookouts and a wealth of things to do within a short walk of the summit. The 304-metre peak was named ‘Arthurs Seat’ by Lieutenant Murray in 1802, after a similar landform near Edinburgh. How to get there Arthurs Seat is approximately 1.5 hours from Melbourne via the Nepean Highway and the Moorooduc Freeway.
