It is made up of sandstone which was once seabed, and eroded into several separate mountain ranges. Auswalk Walking Holidays takes you to the High Plains which are located in North East Victoria and contain Victoria's highest mountains. From the 1860's gold was discovered in the area. Even before then, graziers brought their cattle into the mountains to feed on the green summer pastures. You will see rough yards for holding mustered cattle, simple huts built by the cattlemen. First comes the peaceful Glenelg River, a haven for walkers, fishermen and canoeists. The river carves its way through a spectacular limestone gorge, onto pristine sandy beaches and rocky outcrops. The grand finale is the Three Capes and Bays section where the track hugs the cliff top all the way.
