Home of festivals, Adelaide Festival Centre is pleased to announce its year-long festival for 2010. With a mix of Australian and international entertainment, Adelaide Festival Centre will present an eclectic program of theatre, dance, music, visual arts and exhibitions, along with its three festivals, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, OzAsia Festival and Adelaide International Guitar Festival.

As Australia’s first multi-purpose arts centre, the Adelaide Festival Centre continues to champion diversity and accessibility in the arts by presenting both mainstream and cutting edge work from a broad range of companies and artists, dedicated to ensuring audiences have the opportunity to experience some of the best works from around Australia and the globe.

To kick start the year Avenue Q and Cats will be making a visit to Adelaide in January, then from February onwards there is a plethora of shows for all tastes and budgets, with five world premieres throughout the year and works from the Festival Centre’s theatre, dance and music streams.  These include brand new seasons of CentreStage (the best works from stages around the world), Pivot(al) (world’s best dance), trans:mission (universal beats, rhythms and grooves), Australian Stories (multi-genre program about the Australian way of life) and the unique inSPACE program, which will be presenting a record seven shows in 2010, along with inSPACE Development, where audiences can get the scoop on a show from its early stages of rehearsal.

Celebrating 33 years of entertainment for 3 – 10 year olds the popular Something On Saturday will be back during the winter months.  Also returning will be the children’s film festival Little Big Shots, along with a family program for young and old. Morning Melodies devotees will be happy to know that after 25 years the program is still going strong, offering the best daytime entertainment, and our distinctive Visual Arts program will continue to exhibit in the Artspace gallery and theatre foyers throughout the Festival Centre.

To encourage patrons to ‘date their diaries’ at the start of the year, the Festival Centre has put together some Season Pass Package suggestions, which can be found in the 2010 season brochure.  These include Music, Dance, inSPACE, Theatre, Mixed, Family and Premium packages.  Patrons are invited to choose a suggested package or create their own year-long package, ensuring they will not only save on ticket prices, but are able to access some of the best seats in the house! As a bonus, if a Season Pass Package is booked before 25 January they will automatically go into a draw to win a trip for two to Sydney to experience the hit musical Wicked, thanks to RAA Travel.

Encouraging and developing new audiences has always been key for the Festival Centre and in 2010 the GreenRoom program (16 – 30 year olds) and centrED program (primary and secondary students) will continue to give young people the opportunity to participate in a number of workshops, events and forums. The Student Tix program offers discounted tickets, enabling younger audiences to access the arts and is supported through the generous donations of the Festival Centre’s Foundation program and Australian Executor Trustees Charitable Trustees.

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director, Douglas Gautier, says “The 2010 program has an array of shows to tempt the appetite of both seasoned arts lovers as well as first timers. We look forward to welcoming everyone and seeing them around the venues throughout the year and enjoying our three festivals.”

As home to many of South Australia’s flagship performing arts companies, visitors to the Festival Centre will also be able to see these companies in our venues in 2010, including works from the State Theatre Company of South Australia, Windmill Performing Arts, Australian Dance Theatre and State Opera of South Australia.

Adelaide CBD and Suburbs
To explore the CBD of Adelaide, it is best to leave the car behind and walk or take the City Free bus. The centre of town is well planned and it is easy to wander along the wide, attractive streets lined with cafes, restored Edwardian and Victorian buildings and shops. Small and compact, this in an elegant, cultured, cosmopolitan but unhurried city.
