Byron Bay
One of Australia's most fashionable and popular holiday destinations, Byron Bay is renowned for its balmy climate and excellent surfing beaches; it is also a popular area for scuba diving. A whaling town in the 1950s, Byron Bay is now full of galleries, boutiques, cafes and 'new age' shops, reflecting the holiday atmosphere and alternative lifestyle of the town. It is such a popular tourist destination, in summer the locals are frequently outnumbered by the tourists.
