Eumundi - Kevin Rudd's birthplace
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was born in Eumundi on 21 September 1957, the youngest of four children.
Rudd's father was a share farmer (diary) on the edge of Eumundi, not far from Nambour. The population then was around 500. Eumundi is described by one of Rudd's biographers, Stuart Nicholas, " Kevin Rudd: an unauthorised political biography", "as exactly the sort of country town that is today described as idyllic. About 20 kilomeres south of Noosa, and 118 kilometres north of Brisbane, it's slightly inland from the coast. The rambling houses are set in the midst of forested greenery. It is an attractive area. Here there might be a mass of purple flowers; over there, brilliant orange leaves suddenly erupt to split the lush foliage of emerald green." (First published by Scribe 2007)
Rudd's Labor Government was elected on 24 November 2007 and he was sworn in as Prime Minister on 3 December 2007.
