Dawn was just outside the back of our campertruck. I opened the doors, curled up under my sleeping bag, and watched the sun rise over the water of Frome River. It was peaceful and beautiful.

There were birds everywhere: galahs absolutely glowing with color in the morning light, flocks of budgies in the tree up above us, corellas carrying on, kites hunting, herons complaining.  I could see the filaments of spiderwebs caught in the sunlight.  A willy wagtail skimmed over the surface of the water, catching bugs.  A red-backed kingfisher sat in a tree.  It was a birdwatcher’s paradise.   Steve Miller took photos for several hours, and after a late breakfast, we got organized to leave.  We would have happily stayed at Muloorina for another day, but we felt we should press on.
