Muloorina Station
Muloorina Station is about 54km from Marree and not far from Lake Eyre South. Muloorina allows visitors to bush-camp along the banks of the Frome River, which has water in it due to the flow of a bore. It is said to have great bird life and also has an access road to Lake Eyre.
The road to Muloorina Station is generally in good condition, but check before leaving. There were several fences along the way, so please follow the law of the outback: always leave a fence as you find it. Most are closed, so we close them behind you. This includes the Dog Fence. The Dog Fence runs for 4,850 kilometres across the states of South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland. Without it, dingoes would no doubt decimate sheep. It is a well-maintained fence, and is the longest man-made barrier in the world. A track runs along side it, and this would be in interesting trip: following it from one end to the other.
Muloorina Station is private, and the owners request that campers not disturb them unless there is an emergency. You can find a site right by the water: a little oasis filled with green reeds. Within a matter of a few hours you might see brolgas (a breeding pair with an immature offspring), brown kites, white-faced herons, a great egret, corellas, galahs, budgies, swifts, and a number of other birds. This is strictly bush camping, with no facilities. In other words, it’s bring your own shovel and toilet paper. It is well worth any inconvenience.
Muloorina Station is a 400,000 square hectare property.
The owners run 10,000 sheep and 2,000 cattle on it. You may camp next to a wetland created by the constant flow of a bore sunk 543 metres into Australia’s artisan basin. The water boils out at a temperature of 56 degrees Celsius, but it quickly cools off when it disperses.

They have also told me that there is no need to book the camping facilities in advance and they prefer that campers do not approach the homestead as it can disrupt their day to day running of the station. There is a donation box on the property where proceeds go to Royal Flying Doctors.
There are accommodation facilities available at the station for people flying in to the area, but these are often busy and pre-booked by people from the nearby mining community.
I have constructed a listing for the property with some more details and guidelines though I am not sure if my map reference is accurate. Cindy is also going to supply an email address for future correspondence for people staying on the property.
