Australia Day Long Weekend - Day Three
I put my little tinny in the water on most days but it rarely got used. Sitting beside the much nicer ski boats the poor little tinny looked a bit out of place.
Mitch and I had good intentions of getting a feed of fish and on this day we purchased some bait and headed off for an adventure. Our goals were simple. If the fishing is no good, we would head up the river to Echuca and get breakfast and a well deserved coffee.
So off we went but we found that the traffic on the river did not make for ideal fishing conditions, so option two was put into action.
We motored up the river towards Echuca and on our way we noted a caravan park on the banks of the Murray. This caravan park has a row of shops sitting high on the cliff tops: Baker, Butcher, Bank, CafeĀ - perfect! So we decided to make that our coffee stop on the return leg from our trip to the Echuca historic port.

Boating around Echuca is fantastic, there is so much to see with Paddle Steamers and many of the original industries still functioning in the historic port area. We spent a good hour just floating around and taking in the sites.
On the way home, we pulled into the caravan park for our coffee and breakfast. We were nearly in the door of the cafe when Mitch stops dead in his tracks. "This is a #&$* cabin, not a cafe!" he blurts out. Sure enough, there was a clothes line and washing drying out the front. We take another look at the other shops we had just walked past.... all cabins as well. The caravan park had made up their accommodation to look like an historic street. Seems like a lot of effort to go to just to trick innocent people like us..... Another quick look around and it appears that know one has noticed our error... so we casually wondered back to the boat as if nothing had happened.....
Gee I hope we aren't the only ones who have done that! It must be kind of annoying to be staying in one of these places and to have a steady stream of tourists wander through your lounge room demanding skinny de-cafe late' all day!
