Rhyll - Phillip Island - Victoria

I visited Rhyll this week to reacquaint myself with the area and perhaps to try to find somewhere a little quieter than Cowes for a late breakfast. I was pleased to see how Rhyll had really come of age.

The staff at the cafe where I ate, made me smile. The tempo was completely different to the hub of activity up the road. The waitress was relaxed and more than pleasant as she took my order, engaged me in conversation whilst still maintaining another round of talks with the lady out the back. A sterling effort I thought to myself and it certainly made me feel like I could stop and spend a while enjoying my meal.

There are many new developments in Rhyll including a fantastic new pub (if I am permitted to refer to it as such). For those of you who feel they are seeking something a little tamer than the 'Isle of Wight Hotel' in Cowes, then I recommend the short drive.

Just around the corner, past the boat ramp there is a sheltered cove which offers a nice beach for a paddle should the wind be affecting the main strip of sand.

Just out of Rhyll is a boardwalk that has been set up through the mangrove flood plain. This is well worth the walk and does not take as long as the sign's suggest to complete the track.
