Get Inspired by Darwin, Northern Territory's Top End
Darwin is the Northern Territory’s vibrant capital, despite Darwin being a great all year-round place to visit due to its weather, activities and unforgettable sunsets, we haven’t received many reviews…here's our review on Darwin to get you inspired to visit.
Anyone who’s been to Darwin will have experienced the exciting mix of nationalities sharing an easy-going lifestyle. Darwin’s influences are as much Asian as they are western, which puts the Darwin in a league of its own considering the contrast with rest of the Northern Territory.
If your experience is anything like ours, everyone who knows anyone who’s seen a Darwin Sunset has been bored looking through their work-colleagues 100 photographs of it. That’s the thing you see, you won’t understand unless you go there yourself to see the mesmerizing red sun sinking into the warm Indian ocean.
It could be something to do with city’s proximity to the ocean that makes Darwin such a unique and picturesque place to visit, not many people know until they visit but Darwin is located on a peninsula with the sea on three sides.
Unlike much of Australian cities, Darwin does not get a winter, the weather here in the Top End of NT is best described as balmy.
I always remember a local comedian doing his best impression of the stuffy weather presenter, but who when reporting the synopsis for Darwin tiredly stressed it was once again “%!@&!^ hotttt…” as he had done every weather report for the NT capital this year!
To visit Darwin is to experience all things big and small that seemingly grow everywhere here, head to the Berry Springs NP to explore the creatures and wildlife up the mangrove lined estuary.
For those would rather leave that exploration to Crocodile Dundee enthusiasts, it is relaxing and easy to explore Darwin’s coastal fringe on foot from Darwin’s Wharf. From Darwin’s Wharf Precinct to the Esplanade at the mouth of the harbour there is much to see and do in the many shops, cafes and bars.
Again, for those more active you can experience Darwin’s exciting and tragic history underwater whilst diving over the many sunken wrecks in Darwin Harbour with its pristine waters.
I have deliberately left out some notable topics here as the rest is for you to find out, but please when you get back don’t bore us with too many sunset happy-snaps!
Happy Travels, Ed.
