Travel just over 500km’s from North West from Sydney, and you'll find everything you need from Country Music to country-style accommodation. All in the main towns of Moree, Armidale, Narrabri and Tamworth in New England’s North West.

You don’t have to be a fan of ‘Country’ to know that Tamworth is the renowned 'Country Music Capital of Australia'.  In fact the Australasian Country Music Awards have been hosted here for more than 20 years.

In anticipation for some great new and old music, thousands of visitors arrive in Tamworth for the 10-day festival, which is held annually in January.  I reckon that even if you don’t think you are a fan, with more than 300 shows (most free-of-charge) you’ll find something to tap your boot to.

For everything else Tamworth has everything you’d expect for the visitor from shopping malls to nightclubs.

Other Towns In New England
Moree, the wheat and wool town of northern NSW is also known for its healing spa baths that sooth sore bodies – but why wait to you get sore to enjoy one?
A few hours drive north of Tamworth, Moree has the areas largest population of indigenous Australians, the library here is regularly updated with records of their rich history.

Armidale is the main city in the Tablelands and is renowned for its churches, while Narrabri lies in the fertile Namoi River Valley.

And just because you are miles from the ocean doesn’t mean you can’t get wet either.

Between the livestock town of Gunnedah and west of Tamworth lies Lake Keepit.  Lake Keepit offers plenty of opportunities to cool off from boating and waterskiing to swimming and fishing.

Incidentally, Gunnedah has the largest population of Koala west of the Great Dividing Range and can be seen in the trees around the town.

Travellers take note: If you are planning on meeting a mate in Mullaley (45kms SW of Gunnedah) don’t forget to adjust your clock.  Mullaley  marks the 150 Deg. East Meridian for Eastern Standard Time – you wouldn’t want to miss a cold schooner before closing time!
