Fishing around Yarrawonga is a primary holiday sport, with the mighty Murray Cod and the Golden Perch (Yellowbelly/Callop) natives, and Redfin, the options are varied.

There is both lake and river fishing available, with Lake Mulwala and the Murray River easily accessed via boat or foot, your sure to hook onto one of Australia's finest icons, the Murray Cod.

Boat hire is available, as well as canoes and kayaks for getting out into the wooded water where the fish lie. Below the weir is a Yellowbelly hatchery, with camping areas available this is a prime spot for holidaying in the region. During the summer months, it can be hard to find a spot without speedboats, a good place to try is the north eastern sections of the lake, there's a good trolling run above the 'twin isles' at around 6-9 meters, and you can get in here amongst the wood (around 2-3m) casting at snags and at the reeds. If you have a tinny there's a rough ramp here, but don't try it with a larger boat, as you will have all sorts of problems with mud and the shallowness of the entry point.

Bundalong also is a beatiful area to fish, with many options for the lure caster, from trolling to working the snags. Again this area can get heavy usage at the Bundalong boat ramp, and if you have a tinny, there are a few clay ramps south of the concrete ramp, just up the road.

If your looking for the camping and fishing spot of choice, try heading toward Wodonga on the Murray Valley Highway, and as soon as you cross the Ovens River, turn left into the State Park, where there's beautiful camping areas, with multiple points to throw in a tinny, or just fish from the bank. During summer, the water here can be a comfortable 20 degrees, warm enough to go swimming at night, but don't forget the Aerogard, the mozzies can be pretty hard core in this area, of your close to the water. Setup camp a little further from the edge than you'd like, away from the marshy areas, and you should be right!
