"Snorkelling, Surfing, Swimming, Dolphins and 1 shark in the sea at Byron Bay"

For the last 3 years my Fiance and I have been escaping the cold Melbourne winter for a short but welcome winter sun break.

This year we headed straight down to Suffolk Park, about 6km's south of Byron Bay.  I have decided that Suffolk Park is the greatest place to stay when visiting this part of northern NSW.  You are only 15 minutes drive from the majestic coastal spots of Broken Head, Lennox Head and of course the world famous Byron Bay AND you can relax without the sometimes hectic buzz of Byron.

Being Winter I was not expected lots of surf so came fully equipt with my snorkel and mask.  Fortunatley the surf was pumping through for 3 days and went flat for the last three allowing us to make the most of all conditions.  We enjoyed some excellent evening surfs at Broken Head, even sneaking a few waves in front of the Naturist beach (we kept our shorts on!) around the corner - fortunately there where plenty of dolphins in the water and kept our eyes seaward!

Every lunch we took the time to find a new restaurant/milk bar in one of the towns to refuel and squeeze some more adventures in before sun down.  One night in particular at Broken head was unforgetable, with the sun setting and nice swell rolling in we strolled the beach bathed in the fading sun with the chatter of the birds from the lush rainforest behind.  I wondered how i was going to make it back to Melbourne!

This set the scene for the holiday, only scary thing was swimming at Brunswick Heads, near the river, when a 1.5m shark surfed a wave right in front of Mieke as she dived under it!!!!  Talk about skipping across the water to get out, i think i was tap dancing across it to reach the safety of the sand!

Another great holiday, is all I could think as we flew back down to Melbourne.  Can't wait till the next one.
