Any holiday to the vast country should include a trip to the reef. The sheer variety of animals that this reef supports is incredible and in one visit to the reef you will discover hundreds of species. The Dwarf Minke Whale, Flatback Turtle, Olive Ridley Turtle, Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin and Salt Water Crocodile are just some of the many species found here. Thirty species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises have been recorded in the Great Barrier Reef in total and some of the wildlife found here is not seen anywhere else in the world. There are a wide variety of birds living near this reef too and the area has been recognised as a world heritage site. The site, which is located just off the coast of Queensland, is the largest coral reef in the world.

Many cities along the Queensland coast offer daily boat trips and the site is easily accessible. If you chose just one part of Australia to visit then you should see the Great Barrier Reef. There is nowhere else like it. The diving world flocks the area whenever they can, so that should be an indication of how spectacular the region is.
