Cradle Mountain is one of our favourite destinations - for an outing for a day-tip for for a relaxed weekend away from it all..................

Cradle Mountain will always be a magical place for me.  My ancestors trapped in the area in the early part of the 20th Century and were personal friends of the "Man of the Mountain" Gustav Weidorfer.  My paternal great grandfather was commissioned by Gustav to build the first wooden boat for Dove Lake which was hauled overland to the lake-side.

The mountain has many moods, one of the finest being after heavy snowfall.  Cloud on the mountain can be an issue for the one day visitor, however if you are fortunate, seeing the mountain without cloud cover is an awesome sight.  The boardwalk Dove Lake circuit has been markedly improved in recent years and is an easy hike for the average traveller.  Be sure however to take warm clothing as the mountain is VERY changeable.  Fine and sunny in the morning to almost blizzard conditions in the afternoon.

When in Tasmania, Cradle Mountain must be a priority.
