Beechworth is Victoria’s best preserved gold rush town

Beechworth, originally named 'Mayday Hills' is Victoria’s best preserved gold rush town and is located in the North East of Victoria. Steeped in history and probably most renowned for the discovery of gold and the bush ranger 'Ned Kelly'.

This old goldmining town is a fantastic place to visit and with a plenty of events and festivals all year round, so there is never a dull moment. Its carefully restored colonial buildings, historic precinct and 19th century streets showcase a mix of galleries, collectables, handcrafts, old pubs, cafes, restaurants and of course the famous 'Beechworth Bakery'.

Over 30 buildings are classified by the National Trust; the town is also notable for its colourful autumn foliage. Beechworth was once the centre of the Ovens goldmining region and the National Trust has classified the whole town.
