Some tips and information for those planning their next ski-trip to Falls Creek alpine and nordic ski resort

Falls Creek is Victoria's largest alpine resort with over 450 hectares of snow covered fields, extensive snow making system and more reliable snow cover.

There are also 60km of groomed cross-country trails.

What makes the Falls area so great is the excellent and reliable snow falls.  In a good season you can rely on Falls being as good as anywhere.  If its been a poor season, if it's skiable anywhere it is going to be skiable at Falls.

It is widely known that Falls is always one of the first resorts in Australia to have reasonable snow cover and one of the last to finish.

Everyone can come to Falls and enjoy it at their own pace.  There are slopes for beginners, intermediates and experienced skiers, with runs over 3km's on some slopes.

Obviously some people are put off driving in the snow fields, but there is no need to fear driving in the snow.  Just use caution and common sense.

Because of variable weather conditions chains must be carried at all times during winter on alpine roads.

If you encounter snow on the road ahead, do not panic, do not stop, slow down gently, engage a lower gear and be very gentle with the accelerator, brakes and steering.

Unless you lose traction wait until the "FIT CHAINS HERE" sign before fitting chains, then fit chains in the designated CHAIN FITTING BAY without blocking the road or other cars. Once your chains are fitted your car will have more traction and you will be able to travel slightly faster, up to 30/40 k/h.

The drive from Falls from Mount Beauty will take you 40-45 minutes giving you plenty of time to take in the amazing views.  The motto is leave ten minutes earlier and enjoy the ride along this very scenic route.

If you are visiting the Ski-fields of Falls it is better to stay sub-alpine.  You get to enjoy the views of the sub-alpine surrounds and avoid all the congestion of the ski-resorts.

By staying sub-alpine you not only arrive earlier and more relaxed the first day you get here, you also get home many hours earlier on the day of your departure.

If you are planning on going skiing next winter, make the Falls region your first choice - you will not be disappointed.
