Dollar Birds
Following the strange frog sounds we rushed out to investigate the origin of the noise. Swooping out of the Bluegum tops along the top of the rainforest gully we saw half a dozen medium sized birds apparently chasing insects. Binoculars showed bright red legs and beak with aqua and blue on its back, on the photograph we could clearly see the white /silver dollar shape on the underside of the wing. Our book says the Dollar birds migrate from New Guinea and are at the edge of their range her in East Gippsland. We haven't seen them here before in our 30 years.
