Continuing the saga of living with wombats (In the previous episode our gallant wombat excluder had succeded in preventing the wombat returning to the burrow beneath the B & B ) read on for the next exciting episode.

Just when I decide I have the wombat fooled – he comes back and tunnels through the lavender bushes on the other side of the house. The original area is Ok and the grass is growing back so he seems less keen to dig that up again. This time I go straight for the big construction – a one way gate with an electric fence wire to discourage any new digging underneath the gate. A nervous wait ensues, some scratchings show an intent to return, but now it is four months later. After a few weeks I disconnected the electric fence again and as yet he/ she has not dug under again, although we see where wombat droppings mark a regular passage close by and our guests often see a wombat by spotlight from the deck. For the time being we can share the area without conflict.
