Visiting Darwin and the Northern Territory

Darwin and Surrounding Area

We took a late flight from Melbourne to Darwin, did not arrive in Darwin til about 3am, picked up our Hire Car and made way to our accommodation which was prebooked.  You could not ask for a better place to stay at then the Darwin Central Hotel.  They have an arrangement with a cafe downstairs where you get wonderful meals, you can either pay for them, or charge them to your room.  If ordering Room Service, you actually get the food from the cafe brought to your room.

Budget is tight so we decide to stay somewhere cheaper, we spend the next few nights in a cheaper place in Fannie Bay.  As far as accommodation, it could not be compared to the Darwin Central.

We travel a bit, and spend a night in Katherine, spending the day at Katherine Gorge, and the surrounding area.

There are some gorgeous places to see around Darwin, it is fantastic to be able to get in a car and just drive that's how you find the best places.  Lets see where this road takes us?  Wow, we are at the Waterfront watching the massive waves come in.  Thats the most fascinating thing about travelling through the Northern Territory.  There is so much to see, and it is not as Tourist Crazy as what Queensland is, even though the weather is pretty much the same....

Time is up, we spent around 10 days in the Northern Territory and time to go back to Melbourne where we call  home.  Again, a late night flight is the best thing to do.  Only problem this time, is we arrive in Melbourne at 7:30am Melbourne time.  We spend the day sleeping, after all we all need some sleep.....

10 days just touching the surface

Agree there is so much to see in the Northern Territory but you've just scratched the surface staying for 10 days. Hope you plan another trip there as it sounds like you didn't get to spend any time in Kakadu, Arnhem Land, Uluru Kata Tjuta and all the places in between!

Whats close? (direct line)
