Gunns Plains is a small rural valley situated just 30 minutes from Devonport, Tasmania. A 10 minute coastal drive west, and then 15 minutes south of Ulverstone, and you will end up at one of the most picturesque valleys along the north west coast.

Small in size, Gunns Plains can boast about having some of the best attractions for Tasmania. Wing's Wildlife Park provides the largest display of Tasmanian wildlife for Australia - devils, wombats, reptiles, trout and there is accommodation and camping there as well.

Gunns Plains Caves - there are some great limestone formations. Leven Valley Vineyard - providing locally made wine. Preston Falls - the drop is amazing. From the road, one would not expect such a drop, and it is only a short walk down the pathway.

Farming practices carried out in the area consist of dairying, cropping potatoes and beef production. Discovered in the 1800s by Mr Ronald Gunn, this valley has no connection with Gunns Ltd.

If you have time to venture further south, the Leven Canyon is also another spectacular site. There are walks to the lookout, walks to the base of the canyon, and the Leven River flowing through the Canyon also winds through the valley of Gunns Plains. Activities on the river - if you have your own gear - it is well known for trout fishing and rafting/kayaking.

Ulverstone
The beachside town of Ulverstone, 19km west of Devonport, is a popular tourist destination, especially in summer. It is the centre for a dairy farming and agricultural district.
