I do have a story to tell about this drive, and it serves a very important point about outback travel.  Some years ago, a Swiss couple decided to go out there, and they casually mentioned to the bar girl at the pub that that was where they were heading and that they would be back the following day.  Several days later, they had still not returned.  As it turned out, they had become hopelessly bogged on the track and were unable to extract their car.  The woman wanted to walk back to William Creek for help.  The man insisted they stay with the car, an absolute when you break down in the outback.  An argument ensued, and the woman left while the man stayed.  She died, and he lived when someone eventually came down the track and found him.  Therefore, adventurers take heed, never, ever leave your car if you break down.
