A good place for an overnight stay if you are a bird watcher, is the Eyre Bird Observatory, run by the Australian Ornithologist Union.

It is near Cocklebiddy, along a 4-wheel drive track that leads to the shore, and if you don’t have a suitable vehicle, they will come and pick you up at a near-by parking area.  The cost is $70 per night, per person, and that includes three meals.  There are numerous scrub birds, shore birds, Major Mitchell Cockatoos, and even pygmy possums.  Because there was no safe place to leave our trailer, we declined to go, but I understand it is a beautiful spot.  Call 08-9039-3450 for more information, or look up the Royal Australasian Ornithologist Union’s website birdsaustralia.com.au
