Why you should visit Palm Beach, Sydney, NSW

A cab from the Sydney CBD is around $100. The easiest public transport route from the City is via a frequent bus service from Wynyard taking one to one and a half hours. Alternatively, the ferry and jet cat service from Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney goes directly to Manly, from which a bus trip may be taken North along the Peninsula to Palm Beach.

The 2km long stretch of sand extending northwards from Palm Beach's elite Cabbage Tree Club and rock pool at the exclusive southern end of Ocean Road, up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse, is a holiday playground. From anyone wanting a simple day out to enjoy a beautiful picnic spot, to the rich and famous seeking anonymity, Palm Beach caters for everyone.

Water sports dominate the area. Sailing, windsurfing, swimming and surfing are popular past times. The boating enthusiast is well catered for with Pittwater being a yachtsman's paradise. The nine hole Palm Beach golf course has a spectacular setting and modern club house for those seeking a more terra-firma form of exercise.

From Palm Beach you may like to enjoy a short ferry ride to beautiful Coasters Retreat, Mackerel Beach, Patonga or Ettalong on the Central Coast. The Basin, in the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, is accessible only by ferry from Palm Beach wharf.

Accommodation in Palm Beach is limited and it is advisable to book well ahead of your planned stay. Prices range from $180 to $350 per night for the few very comfortable Bed and Breakfast accommodations.

It is possible to rent a house for longer stays for larger families. The weekly rent starts at around $5000 and can be up to $40,000 over the Christmas holiday season.

The restaurant scene is well covered with world-class restaurants like Beach Road, Sugar Palm, Swellter, Jonah's, The Dunnes and Barrenjoey House overlooking the sparkling waters of the ocean or the Pittwater. Dine alfresco, or more formally within the luxuriously appointed dining rooms of these outstanding restaurants. For more modest, but still stylish eating, Palm Beach has a number of cafes, coffee shops and bistros in the RSL and Golf Club where visitors are always welcome.

As the setting for the long-running Australian television series "Home and Away", Palm Beach has become even more famous and world-renowned, and is one of the most exclusive coastal villages in Australia.
